Sources of ionizing radiation
lonizing radiation enters our lives in a variety of ways. It arises from natural processes, such as the decay of uranium in the Earth, and from artificial procedures like the use of X rays in medicine. So we can classify radiation as natural or artificial according to its origin. Natural sources include cosmic rays, gamma rays from the Earth, radon decay products in the air, and various radionuclides found naturally in food and drink. Artificial sources include medical X rays, fallout from the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, discharges of radioactive waste from the nuclear industry, industrial gamma rays, and miscellaneous items such as consumer products.
電離放射線源
電離放射線は様々な経路で私達の体内に入ります。電離放射線は、地球上のウランの崩壊などの自然過程から、また医療分野でのX線の利用などの人工的な方法から生じます。従って、放射線は、その起源によって自然放射線と人工放射線に分類することができます。自然放射線源には、宇宙線、地球からのガンマ線、空気中のラドン崩壊生成物、飲食物の中に自然に含まれている様々な放射性核種などがあります。人口放射線源には、医療用X線、大気圏内での核兵器実験からの放射線降下物、原子力産業からの放射性廃棄物の放出、工業用ガンマ線、消費財を含む様々な物品などがあります。
